Supply quota not met

THE start of the year is always a risky period for farmers in Valley Rd, Sigatoka.
With the majority of the country’s fresh produce supplied from the Salad Bowl, farmers have to work to not only supply to local markets but also export companies too.
In the past few weeks, constant flooding brought on by adverse weather has hindered the ability of farmers to meet the supply quota required.
On Wednesday, parts of farmlands were still inundated by floodwaters.
The changing weather patterns during the cyclone season in the country have also prompted some farmers to plant less produce during those months.
Many residents in the area said they were spared the full wrath of floodwaters and strong wind as houses in the area sustained no significant damage. Farmers had begun work to save whatever produce they could.
