THE Nadroga Super Rugby franchise plays a huge role in uniting people of different backgrounds into something they all love called rugby.

The franchise is on to its second year and after nine rounds of matches, the Davujukia Reds and the Raviravi Sunwolves progressed to be the best two of the 16 teams in the competition.

The competition for the past few weeks has been attracting hundreds of people every Saturday of different ethnicity supporting their team at Lawaqa Park.

Nadroga Rugby Union president Tiko Matawalu said he saw the bigger picture of what the franchise had brought to the province.

“Something that the franchise brought into the province is the support of rugby that used to be seen back in the days where the villagers come by buses, carriers, and even by horseback to support their team and this is Nadroga where all races love rugby and we’ve witnessed that during this franchise where people of different races come and support rugby,” said Matawalu.

“That’s the beauty of rugby when we see people of various backgrounds with their supporting T-shirts to cheer for their team and this is a common site in Nadroga.”
