MINISTER for Lands and Mineral Resources Ashneel Sudhakar said yesterday he was not in the business of doing favours for anyone.
He made the comments during a talanoa session with residents at Rarapatu in Rakiraki, saying “a lot of people say, ‘brother I will give you crabs, please get my job done’.
“Those who ask me to get the job done, I don’t like that,” he said.
Mr Sudhakar said people used to call him, asking for favours to be done.
“People call me and say, ‘Minister my daughter has been transferred here, please get her transferred there’. People always ask me to get their job done.
“If someone has a problem with police, they ask me to talk to magistrate. That is all illegal.”
Mr Sudhakar received numerous complaints against an individual in Rakiraki who is alleged to have taken money from people, with promises to solve their land issues.
“I will send a team and those who have complaints, please come forward and have it registered here. I will refer the matter to FICAC.”
He said no individual had the authority to take money from anyone using the Government’s name.
“Nobody can tell you ‘give me money and I will get your job done’.
“Even I don’t have the authority to receive money on behalf of Government.
“I can’t be sitting here and say give me this money and I will get your job done.”
