Successful junior event

THE Pacific Energy-sponsored Junior Tennis Series at the Nadi Sports and Social Club last weekend attracted an overwhelming response.

The series is part of Tennis Fiji’s ongoing development program.

Tennis Fiji secretary and development officer Sachin Reddy said the matches were played in age groups.

He said there were many newcomers especially in the under-10 category.

“The players participated in red court, orange court and green court competitions,” Reddy said.

“This was the biggest junior tournament to be staged this year. The next series will be held in Suva and the date is yet to be finalised.”

Tennis Fiji is gearing for the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu at the end of the year.

Tennis Fiji has selected a training squad for the regional event with former professional player Rob Krause as national coach.

Fiji is set to host two international junior tournaments next month.

An International Tennis Federation world ranking Grade B tournament will be held in Lautoka followed by the Pacific Oceania Junior Championship.
