Success of Stellenbosch

I was amazed with the success of the South African development 7s team which was coached by Marius Schoeman in the absence of Neil Powell, who is in Gold Coast with the likes of Senatla, Agaba, Afrika, Du Preez, Snyman, Kok, Kwagga Smith, Specman, Geduld, Sage and Kyle Brown and preparing to defend their Commonwealth Games 7s gold medal.

The 7s academy in Stellenbosch is producing stars and this was evident in Hong Kong with players such as Bezuidenhourt, Selvyn Davids, James Murphy, Human, Gans, De Plessis, Labuschagne, Mafuma, Smith, Ndhlovu and Ngcogo.

The young guns went on to hammer South Korea 45-0, Scotland 31-17 and England 33-15, and then thrashed Spain in the Cup quarters 38-5.

South Africa finished in third place and amassed 17 points after smacking New Zealand 29-7.

They were outstanding. Thus, congratulations to Selvyn Davids for being named player of the tournament.
