Strict water conditions

THERE might be strict water restrictions put in place by the Water Authority of Fiji if the drought condition continues on to next year.
This was confirmed by WAF CEO Opetaia Ravai following forecasts from the weather office of this dry spell extending into the new year.
“If this continues as predicted, we could be facing more concerns in terms of our water levels,” Mr Ravai said.
“We could also come to a situation where there will be water restrictions.”
Mr Ravai said the last time strict water restrictions were put into action in the country was 1999.
He said things such as washing of vehicles, driveways, filling and cleaning pools, watering gardens were restricted then — a measure they would take if the restriction was put into place.
“But we are not there yet. We do not want to get to a situation where we have to enforce that but we are advising our customers to use water wisely.”
