STRAY dogs are being kept in an animal shelter provided by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says Agriculture Ministry permanent secretary David Kolitagane.

Mr Kolitagane said the Agriculture Ministry had a procedure in place agreed to by stakeholders regarding the treatment and safe keeping of stray dogs.

As number of strays increase Mr Kolitagane said they have been buying more cages to hold strays.

“Unfortunately because of the intensity of the stray dog control campaign the current space at SPCA would not be enough so we are buying more dog cages,” he said.
