Stocks record gains

WHILE share trading last week fell by more than 50 per cent in terms of volume and value traded the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPSE) noted that some stocks recorded price gains last week with some achieving highest share prices.
Market heavyweight Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Ltd (ATH) shares increased by 3.35 per cent ($0.07) to close the week at a highest price of $2.16.
FijiCare Insurance (FIL) shares recorded a growth of 2.59 per cent or $0.03 to close to close the week at $1.19, also a highest while Vision Investment (VIL) shares rose by a further 0.33 per cent ($0.01) last week to end at a new best share price of $3.01. Fiji Television Ltd (FTV) shares gained 0.94 per cent ($0.02) to close the week at a price of $2.14 while Atlantic & Pacific Packaging Company Ltd (APP) shares increased by 9.52 per cent or $0.10 and closed the week at a price of $1.15. There was no price loss recorded last week.
And because of these positive share price movements the overall market value recorded an increase of 1.65 per cent or $31,837,070 to close at a new highest value of $1,963,962,086.
The SPSE Total Return Index (STRI) also gained 1.65 per cent (79.51points) to conclude the week at a value of 4904.96.
Meanwhile, a total of 39,134 shares were traded last week in 12 transactions at a total consideration of $62,500 while the previous week’s trading saw 100,263 shares being traded for $172,444.
