THE Fiji Labour Party says the Prime Minister should step down from office if he wishes to use his position to campaign for FijiFirst in the lead up to the September polls.
FLP West candidate and former parliamentarian Vyas Deo Sharma said it was unfair for Rear Admiral (Ret) Voreqe Bainimarama to accept invitations to be the chief guest at events and use the opportunity to campaign for his party.
“He came to open the Lautoka market women vendors accommodation and Tilak Day celebrations at Tilak High School this week and at both events, he said a few lines about the event before he began talking politics. He was invited in his capacity as the Prime Minister and not as the leader of the FijiFirst party so he should stick to talking about the event and not about how his party has done this and that for the country.
“He uses these events to rubbish political parties from the past and, in doing so, Mr Bainimarama is forgetting the immense contribution that past elected governments have made to the country.
“He cannot compare the FLP to any other government because we were not given our full term to do the developments that we had planned which would have benefited the country.
“Many of the policies that the current administration has implemented were borrowed from the FLP. If Mr Bainimarama wants to continue campaigning for FijiFirst when he is invited as the PM at every given opportunity then he should do the right thing and step down.”
