Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says help is on its way to Fijians affected by TC Harold and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is in talks with the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) “to relieve impacted Fijians”.

He said Fiji had been through many cyclones before which were stronger than TC Harold and “we will rise back to our feet”.

“We’ll do it together,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“If you’ve been affected by this storm, know that help is on the way.

“Stay strong Fiji.”

Mr Bainimarama said the category 4 cyclone left Fiji’s waters leaving behind a trail of destruction.

As Fijians pick up the pieces after being struck by yet another severe cyclone, PM Bainimarama acknowledged all members of the disciplined forces and the National Disaster Management Office for working through the winds and rain to keep Fijians safe.

He said this recent storm must not compromise our coronavirus containment efforts.

“Between TC Harold and the global COVID-19 pandemic, our economy and our people have been dealt two body blows to start the year. While we may be on the ropes, now is when the measures of our resilience and diligence matter most.

“This storm must not compromise our coronavirus containment efforts, lest we risk damage far more painful than the aftermath of any cyclone. So please, continue to follow all of our lifesaving public health directives.”
