A CANADIAN national  charged with one count of  unlawful possession of illicit drugs was further remanded by the High Court in Suva today.

Twenty-four-year-old Joshua Aziz Rahman who appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar is alleged to have without lawful authority had in his possession 39.5 kilograms of cocaine on February 14, 2019 in Caubati.

Defence Lawyer Ashniel Nadan filed formal bail applications to the court.

Mr Nadan informed the court that his client had no previous convictions or arrests.

He said his client had assured in his affidavit that he will not interfere with witnesses in the case and was willing to be put under strict bail conditions.

Representing the state, Assistant Directors of Public Prosecutions, Dr Andrew Jack objected to the bail.

In his response, Dr Jack said the case involved a man having limited ties to Fiji, he was a foreign national and based on information received from Foreign Law Enforcements, the police had carried out their arrest of the accused at a Nadi Hotel.

Justice Goundar adjourned the case to March 28, for bail hearing.
