THE State has been granted 21 days to file information and disclosures in a case involving a 69-year-old man charged with the murder of a 83-year-old man.

Jone Durukula appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar on Wednesday charged with one count of murder.

It is alleged Mr Durukula on December 29, 2019, in Levuka, punched the victim on his head which resulted in his death two days later.

State lawyer Sheenal Swastika told the court that the prosecution needed time to decide whether they were going to charge the accused.

She said before the accused took his caution interview statement, he had been taken to the St Giles Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
