Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Charan Jeath Singh says under the leadership of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Government will continue to support and improve the state of hospitals in Fiji.

He made the following remarks while officiating at the Gift of Life ceremony at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Nasese last Saturday.

“Had it not been such organisations such as the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Nasese and so many organisations that have flown in doctors, facilities, our medical system would have collapsed. In fact, it has collapsed,” Mr Singh said.

He acknowledged the doctors who offered their services free of charge, as well as those who gave medical equipment from countries such as Australia, New Zealand and India.

He said unfortunately Fiji did not have the expertise to take care of the equipment but Government could depend of these organisations to improve health care in the country. Mr Singh thanked the hardworking staff and directors of the hospital and the Sai Prema Foundation.

The Gift of Life is a successful project by Sai Prema Foundation providing free heart surgeries to the underprivileged and needy children in Fiji and the Pacific.
