The Southern Zone secondary schools Vodafone Deans Trophy rugby competition got off to a soggy start yesterday at the Suva Grammar School grounds at Veiuto because of heavy rain around Suva City yesterday.

Parents, former scholars and students turned out in numbers to watch their sons and friends represent their schools in the first round of matches for the season.

The results from some of the games played yesterday saw Suva Grammar School win over Ratu Sukuna Memorial School 5-0 while Marist Brothers’ High School outclassed Nasinu Secondary School 22-7 in the under-14 grade.

In the U15 grade, Nasinu Secondary School pipped Suva Grammar School 10-7 while Marist Brothers’ High School thrashed Ratu Sukuna Memorial School 30-0 and Nasinu Secondary School proved too strong for Nabua Secondary School winning 44-0.

In the U16 grade, Marist Brothers High School trampled Lami High School 29-5.

In the under-17 grade, MBHS defeated Nasinu Secondary School 28-8 while Suva Grammar School won by default (WBD) against Ratu Sukuna Memorial School.

In the under-19 grade, Naitasiri Secondary School WBD over John Wesley College and Lomary Secondary School drew 5-all against Suva Grammar School. The competition will continue next week.
