Spouse on murder charge further remanded

A MAN who allegedly murdered his wife at their home in Kinoya, Nasinu, last month has been further remanded in custody.

Peni Fatai appeared this morning before High Court judge Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva.

He is charged with one count of murder.

The alleged incident took place on December 29, 2019.

State lawyer Meli Vosawale informed the court the incident took place after the wife refused to have sexual intercourse with him.

Mr Vosawale said the accused was home to spend the festive season with his wife and five children.

He also said the accused had confronted his wife about a rumour of a de-facto relationship that she was having when he was away in Oneata, Lau.

Mr Vosawale the accused is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed his wife and also slit her throat using a kitchen knife.

Mr Fatai will reappear in court on February 17.
