Sports can help youth to be healthy and socially engaged, said Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru in Ba last week.

This was part of his message to Magodro Youth Club members at Bukuya Village during a week-long sports accredited training.

Mr Saukuru said Government was committed to develop a productive and healthy nation through the National Development Plan.

And through the sports development programs, it aimed to develop locals into elite athletes.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports strives to build healthy and socially engaged youth through non-formal education,” he said.

“This program has been an opportunity for participants to gather and explore the topics of human rights, sexuality and gender, reproduction, healthy relationship, and mental health care so that they may carry these lessons throughout their lives and in every endeavour they undertake.”

Participants received training on rugby coaching, refereeing and rugby first aid, netball coaching, umpiring and boxing awareness.
