Special treat for children

WOWS Kids Fiji treated children with cancer and life-threatening diseases who are under their care to a birthday bash yesterday.
It was one with a difference as the children were able to play tag rugby and athletics organised by the Fiji Rugby Union development unit and the Fiji Athletics Association respectively.
Pacific sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo-Batimala was one of those athletics representatives at the LDS Church College gym to give these children an opportunity to enjoy athletics and their birthday celebration.
“I really feel honoured. For me it’s an opportunity to help kids with cancer and give them an opportunity to have a taste of the sport that I took part in, so to me that is very valuable and very important to share my knowledge because this involves very basic athletics,” she said.
For Mrs Batimala, having to spare some time for these special children because of the sickness they have is something that she looks forward to.
She said these children did not get such an opportunity because they had cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
“Most times they do not get this opportunity in their schools or they don’t attend school so giving them this opportunity is really touching.
“I always look forward to this. To me we’re celebrating life through athletics. One day they might miss out because of the sickness and I always look forward to see one of them become a survivor and represent Fiji in athletics.”
