Fijian Drua halfback Frank Lomani shares a light moment with his Moana Pasifika counterpart.

The historical clash between two of the newest Super Rugby Pacific teams, the Fijian Drua and the Moana Pasifika will be cherished by those who were part of it.

The Drua beat the Moana Pasifika 34-19 on Saturday night. Swire Shipping Fijian Drua coach Mick Byrne said it was a special day for everyone.

“It was a special day and I think you the people that were here and maybe the TV people would have seen some of it witness the coming together of the boys at the end of the game it meant a lot emotionally to all the boys today,” Byrne said.

“It’s been a challenge for them and me as well to be away from family and present ourselves for Super Rugby Pacific. And I think if today is any indication about the emotion and passion for Super Rugby Pacific we’re all a winner.”

He mentioned about the heavy 67-5 defeat to the Hurricanes last week and how the team recovered from it.

“Sometimes when you have games like last week, you don’t have to do much as a coach just make sure we turn up on time to train you know, because the boys they were hurting from it as well.”

“And you know, they experienced something last week. They’re coming down from a big hiding the week before and how to get back and do the job. And it’s something that in our first year, the business part of professionalism is we’re learning every week. Turning up today it’s that’s what they do and they do it well.”

The Drua side faces the Crusaders in its next match at 7.05pm this Friday.
