SOUTHERN Police retained the Commissioner’s trophy after they defeated Eastern Police 17-13 in the opening round of the competition at Nasova ground in Suva today.
Both teams were tied 10-all during the half time break.
But the Eastern team converted a penalty in the second spell to lead 13-10 before Livai Ikanikoda ran towards two defenders to score the winning try.
Southern coach Solomoni Nute said he was still working on his best line-up.
“We will face the Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) in two weeks’ time and I believe I will have the right combination,” Nute said.
The next challenge will be on May 13 at the Nasova ground.
