A WOMEN’S group at Nabukadogo Village in Macuata sells virgin coconut oil and crabs as their main source of income.
Leader of the group Kinisimere Ratu said they used to be active with their business engagements in the village in previous years until it died down.
“We used to have a group sewing machine that we use to help fund us in any fundraising or village soli,” she said.
Ms Ratu said the tailoring business went on for a few years before members turned to work on their own business to help support their own family.
“We then turned to virgin coconut oil business and sell crabs as our main source of income,” she said.
“The only reason why the group had to split up was because there was no unity and team spirit to hold the group together.”
Ms Ratu said with the capacity building program held in the village she found the women’s eagerness of wanting to start the business right away.
“This is a good sign and we can only hope that they work together for the betterment of our village and for the benefits of our future generation,” she said.
There are a total of more than 20 women in the group.
