The Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei is the original women’s movement in Fiji with a membership which includes every iTaukei woman in Fiji, encompassing all 14 provinces and 1216 villages in the country.

President Adi Finau Tabakaucoro said this while addressing participants at the inaugural Fiji National Feminist Forum (FNFF) on Thursday in Pacific Harbour.

She said the soqosoqo was focused on people development in the areas of food security, housing and shelter, health, education and employment – issues she believed needed to be addressed nationally.

Adi Finau said the FNFF was a meeting place where women’s and feminist organisations could build on their own focuses within the women’s movement and at a national level for the collective betterment of women’s lives.

She said by being a part of the forum, the soqosoqo hoped to further this agenda within the women’s and feminist movements, both nationally and regionally.

Adi Finau said she hoped to achieve this by joining in the conversation that would contribute to the outcome statement of the forum that was drafted on Thursday.
