Solo Mara’s trial gets underway

Former Fijian Ambassador to USA and diplomat Solo Mara’s three day trial began this morning at the Suva Magistrates Court.

Mr Mara is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in January with one count each of disobedience of lawful order and giving false or misleading information.

In court today, it was informed in court that two search warrants had been executed by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption(FICAC) to search Mr Mara’s residence on January 23, 2020 and January 24, 2020.

The court was informed that the warrant dated January 23 had been authorized by a Magistrate to be conducted by night while the warrant dated on January 24, had no specific authorization on when the search could be executed.

It was also told in court that both warrants had been executed at Mr Mara’s during night.

The trial continues this afternoon.
