THE recent installation of solar panels at Natabua’s Golden Age Home in Lautoka will help reduce operational costs for the senior citizens’ home.

The community project was one of Bank South Pacific’s commitments to the Fijian community in its effort to develop and assist the needy.

Bank retail manager Ravindra Singh said the theme this year was to revisit old projects to determine how they could assist such groups.

“We are delighted to fund the installation of solar panels and I’m proud of the sweat equity from our staff who volunteered in the gardens here,” Mr Singh said.

“This Golden Age Home initially received funding in 2013 to upgrade their ablution blocks and this year after reviewing past projects, we are delighted to identify this home as needing our help.

“Every branch has a role to play in this and they have to choose a project every year.”

Since 2010, the bank has given more than $9 million back to communities in Fiji through community projects, sponsorship, donations and customer promotions.

Home senior welfare officer Clermont Dare said such a project would benefit the home a lot because most of their residents were senior citizens.

He added the solar lights would assist most of their residents finding their way around at night.

“We are so thankful looking at the provision of light as this is very important to our residents.

“For us at the community here at Golden Age Home, we would just like to say thank you so much for what BSP has done today.”
