Government House will be fitted with solar energy under a partnership between India and UN Development Partnership fund.

The Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) signed the project document on Monday.

The solarisation aims to empower government leaders in PIDF member-states in their advocacy role for clean energy and climate action.

“This role is now more important as new global threats posed by pandemics like COVID-19 exacerbate the ongoing impacts of climate change on the most vulnerable nations, particularly in Pacific Island Countries,” stated a PIDF statement.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems will be installed at Government House with the goal of giving firsthand experience to country leaders of the benefits that renewable technologies can offer.

“By doing so, leaders can then use their experiences as a tool for engaging the general public,  possibly inspiring mass adoption of solar energy, and perhaps other renewable energy technologies.”
