Soko-Boila trial: Witness’ absence disappoints State
25 October, 2016, 8:48 pm
Update: 8:48PM STATE lawyers today expressed disappointment with a witness who failed to attend today’s Vilikesa Soko and Senijieli Boila trial.
Eight policemen and one military officer are standing trial and appeared before the High Court in Lautoka today.
The officers on trial are Manasa Talala, Seruvi Caqusau, Kelevi Sewatu, Penaia Drauna, Filise Vere, Viliame Vereivalu, Jona Davonu, Senitiki Natakasavu and soldier Pita Matairavula, who all face the charge of rape and sexual assault of Soko and Boila in 2014.
State lawyer Lee Burney said he would inquire if the witness – a member of the Strike Back Team in Suva – would be able to attend the court trial before October 31.
He said the officer sent a sick sheet to the DPP today informing them of his illness.
Mr Burney said he would consider issuing a bench warrant on the prosecution witness if his other options failed.
The trial continues tomorrow.
