Soil test to help determine suitable manure

SAMPLES of soil need to be tested first to determine which manure is suitable for it, says Agriculture Ministry principal research officer Amena Banuve during a talanoa session with farmers during the National Agriculture Show held at the Valelevu grounds, Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Banuve’s comment comes after Tui Mereka, a farmer from Beqa, asked what the best manure for yaqona plants was.
Mr Banuve said a sample of the soil would need to be brought to the chemistry lab in Koronivia to determine which manure was suitable for the soil.
“First you would need to bring samples of the soil you are planting on for tests in order to determine which manure is suitable for it,” he said.
Mr Banuve said once the results of the soil were released, only then would the ministry be able to determine which was the suitable manure.
