Social Democratic Liberal Party communications manager Tukini Cama says they will not respond to claims made by FijiFirst party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at a press conference on Wednesday.

At the presser, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum claimed SODELPA contravened Sections 116(4C) and (4D) of the Electoral Act.

Under the Act, all political parties and candidates including those acting on their behalf who make campaign promises which include financial commitments, during the campaign period, to immediately provide a written statement and explain in detail how those promises would be financially realised.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said Fiji could not have people promising them “pie in the sky stuff”, when they had not accounted for how they would fund those particular promises.

“They have said they’ll build various hospitals et cetera, but they’ve not said where they’ll get the funding from, wherever they said they will cut expenditures from,” he said.

SODELPA communications manager Mr Cama said they would not make any comments since they had not received any formal letter from the Fijian Elections Office regarding the complaints made by the A-G.

“We have to look at it first, we need to see the texture of the complaints and what FEO has to say regarding them,” Mr Cama said.

“Only then will we release a statement.”
