THE Social Democratic Liberal Party is waiting for the Electoral Commission and the secretary general to Parliament to confirm the successor to the parliamentary seat vacated by former MP Mosese Bulitavu.
“We just have to wait for the secretary general’s office and the Electoral Commission to work it out,” SODELPA general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi said.
She said Tui Namuka Ratu Tevita Niumataiwalu was the most likely replacement given the number of votes he polled in the 2014 election.
“He is next in line and SODELPA will communicate with the Electoral Commission as stipulated in the law.”
She said Ratu Tevita was also a provisional candidate for the 2018 General Election.
According to the FEO website, Ratu Tevita managed 1833 votes.
“He is from Macuata Province, holds the traditional title of Tui Namuka and is an active member of the party and of the SODELPA Macuata Constituency Council undertaking awareness and branch-setting work in Macuata, in addition to his traditional duties as Tui Namuka,” she said.
Mr Bulitavu was recently convicted of one count of sedition with Fiji United Freedom Party leader Jagath Karunaratne.
