SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka has been taken in for questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Fiji Police Force.

The party stated on its official social media Twitter page that Mr Gavoka was summoned by the CID for questioning.

The party understands that this was in relation to the controversial Bill 17.

A number of political party executives have been taken in for questioning by CID in the past few days in relation to their public statements opposing Bill 17.

Last Sunday, Mr Gavoka had said the arrests were inexcusable.

“This is inexcusable. We live in a parliamentary democracy – we should be free to have public discourse without fear or being taken in by authorities,” he had said as the party demanded for the immediate release of his parliamentary colleagues and others.
