Restrictions of social gatherings have been extended to 21 days for Raranibulubulu Village on Vanua Levu, which reported typhoid cases end of last month.

The acting divisional medical officer North Dr Tiko Saumalua said no feasting or grog sessions had been allowed since they locked down the village for 14 days beginning two weeks ago.

Now that they have lifted the lockdown, Dr Saumalua said the restrictions would continue until next week Monday (November 21, 2022).

“We have a total of nine typhoid cases with the latest case diagnosed on November 8, 2022 but the patient is stable and receiving treatment at home,” he said.

“Although we have active cases, no cases have been admitted.

“Our team still doing contact tracing and testing of samples and water source, samples also tested and community will be updated accordingly on results.”

Dr Tiko said the community had made progress in sanitation facilities improvement after awareness. He said they had completed two awareness programs and were currently conducting three more with the villagers.
