SMPS targets semi-final

SUVA Methodist Primary School (SMPS) will bank on their under-10 and U11 rugby teams in this weekend’s Suva Kaji rugby competition semi-finals.

SMPS coach Joseva Vere said with their new uniform sponsored by RC Manubhai it had boosted the player’s morale.

“We had a tough game in the quarter-final last weekend against Suva Primary School, we were given two extra-time until our boys scored to win 5-0, so it was a real battle,” Vere said.

He stated that all their teams were good but unfortunately their U9 lost in the quarter-final and will be playing in the plate semi-final.

“We’ve trained well, done the hard yards and we’ve seen that the boys are really getting into the system of understanding how important this weekend’s game is.

“Preparing them physically which is getting their body fit and polishing on their skills and mentally getting their mind-set focused on the game plan.

“We hope to go out there and do our best and whatever the result is we will be happy with it but what we want is for our boys to enjoy and play their hearts out,” he said.

“The target now is getting as many players to join the Suva squad for this year’s Kaji Galaxy games. We’re thankful to our parents for being supportive and backing the boys when they play on Saturday. All schools are well prepared for the semi-finals so we’re treating all teams as tough competitors,” he said.

The team will march into camp today in school ahead of their game on Saturday.
