MICRO, small and medium enterprises contributed close to $800million to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016.

Fiji’s Minister for Forestry Osea Naiqamu made this known in Parliament earlier today.

He said since 2017, they had assisted their development partners consisting of 19 wood carvers with tools and equipment worth $150,000.

“The forest subsidy grant is helping the small businesses in the forestry sector to realise their potential,” Mr Naiqamu said.

“Supporting the micro, small and medium enterprises in the forest sector will ensure that the sum of the ministry’s work is reflected in the lives of people and communities.”

He said they also partnered with the Indonesian government in assisting the business sector.

More reports from the Parliament proceedings will be published in tomorrow’s edition of The Fiji Times.
