Small states meet

Update: 12:47PM FORTY representatives from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, South China Sea, the Carribbean and the Pacific are currently meeting in Suva this week to develop a draft Global Action Plan (GAP) focused on food and nutrition challenges in their countries.

Facilitated
by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the draft Global Action Plan
aims to end hunger, achieve food security , improve nutrition and promote
sustainable agriculture.

According
to FAO, some of the challenges currently faced by SIDs include
undernourishment, food import dependence and vulnerability to natural disasters
which impact agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and commerce.

The three
day is expected to recommend  next steps to continue support and
collaboration as it moves closer to a final document.
