The movement of close to 50 people living in a part of Lovu in Lautoka has been restricted following a major slip on Vatamai Rd Number 8.

Lovu resident Avin Naicker, whose house is located just next to the road slip, claims the road is about 110 years old.

“The slip has formed a deep trench of about 20ft and stretching over 50 metres in length,” he claimed.

“The first road slip was on Sunday and the continuous rain just washed away the road on Monday.

“Residents living on one side of the slip moved nine vehicles to the other before the problem occurred but this has greatly affected movement because at the moment the road is completely inaccessible either by vehicle or by foot.”

Mr Naicker said the slip had also washed away a huge chunk of a pineapple plantation and damaged an electrical pole.

“It is nothing less than a nightmare,” he said.
