Sleepless nights and sacrifices has paid off for Fiji National University (FNU) graduate, Katonisau Dugutabua after recently receiving his Bachelor of Accounting certificate at FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS).

The 24-year-old who spent three years to  achieve his degree said if he has to describe his time at FNU in just three words then those would be, challenging, fun and rewarding.

“I met and made a lot of great friends, most of whom I am so close to and even call them family. Some of them helped me along the way and the bond created from the Campus somehow stayed and will be for a very long time,” Katonisau said.

“Throughout my three years studying at the Fiji National University, I found the teaching staff very approachable and supportive.  At times, I found the course very challenging, particularly during lockdown where I had to complete my final two units through my smartphone, but the staff were always available to provide advice and support,” he said.

“My degree has allowed me to learn different fields of study including economics, commercial law, quantitative analysis and management with particular focus on accounting as a tool of financial management and external disclosure of business performance, viability and accountability,” he added.

“To top it off, seeing my family, especially the happiness on my mom’s face, the emotions, and the proud feeling that I have made it through is the best feeling I have ever felt for a really long time,” mentioned the FNU graduate.”

The Namuamua, Namosi lad has advised prospective and current FNU students to stay focused and keep striving forward.

“When I was in high school, I was told that pursuing Accounting would be difficult at a tertiary level.  I did not listen and I did it anyway.  I was determined, worked hard and achieved what I aimed for.  So I would like to encourage you to stay motivated.”

Katonisau plans to further his education with a Postgraduate Diploma in accounting to successfully become a Certified Public Accountant.
