‘Sledgehammer’ in devastating form

Nicknamed the ‘Sledgehammer’ speed merchant Eroni Sau has been making headlines. Sau, who played for Police in local tournaments, was part of the Fiji extended training squad but had little opportunity to showcase his talents.
He made it big time when he was selected by Fiji Airways Drua coach Senirusi Seruvakula to man the wingers berth in the NRC and he made an immediate impact with his bulldozing runs and heavy tackles.
His performance caught the eyes of Baber and he was drafted in the 7s team for the Dubai and Cape Town 7s alongside Drua captain Stewart. While Stewart failed to make an impression, Sau won hearts with his try scoring abilities and hard hits.
He was part of Fiji’s epic Hamilton win and was nicknamed the “Sledgehammer”. Sau never looked back and carried on with his performance, line breaks, crunching tackles and showing his opponents a clean pair of heels on his way to the tryline.
Sau was awarded the DHL Impact Player in HK as he finished with 53 points. In an interview he said that he watched Fiji win the HK 7s last year and told his wife that he would don the national jumper and he exactly did that and played a crucial role in our victory.
I am adamant that he would be the player to watch at the Commonwealth 7s and would go into history books twice — being part of the four in a row HK 7s win and being part of our first 7s gold medal from the Commonwealth Games 7s competition.
All the best Sau! You have a bright future!
