Six Fijian members of parliament and a former government MP facing corruption-related charges will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Niko Nawaikula, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, Salote Radrodro, Peceli Vosanibola, Adi Litia Qionibaravi, Simione Rasova and former government MP Vijendra Prakash are charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for abusing parliamentary allowances.

The matter was to be heard at 9:30am today but was moved to 2:15pm because the MPs are to be in Parliament to vote for the new President.

They are charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

They are alleged to have given false information about their residential address in order to claim accommodation allowances.
