CONTESTANTS of this year’s Vodafone Millennium Sinu Carnival will use the platform to advocate on non-communicable diseases in Fiji.
Speaking at the opening of the carnival on Saturday night, Vodafone head of recharge and distribution Nilesh Singh said it was important for the community to work together in combating NCDs. As major sponsors, he said, they had entered into the fourth year of partnering in organising the festival.
“This year the festival will share a strong theme of ‘Fighting NCDs Through Healthy Living’. It is important for all of us to work together to overcome these killer diseases,” he said.
“NCDs have become the biggest killer in Fiji, causing thousands of deaths every year — many of those deaths premature — and affecting the lives of many more. We have to educate and change our lifestyle to healthy living to add life to our years.
“I am sure that the seven contestants will utilise the theme in promoting the importance of healthy living.”
He said the week-long festival was aimed at bringing people together in Nasinu and contribute towards the improvement of the township.
“Together with the festival organising committee and Nasinu Town Council, I welcome everyone to come and support the festival, your contestants and the Nasinu community in this week-long fiesta.”
Six contestants are vying for the Miss Vodafone Millennium Sinu Carnival title.
