Fijian featherweight boxing champion Nathan ‘The Hornet’ Singh is punching his way to success after a sponsorship boost yesterday.
Singh of Uptown Boxing Club in Samabula, Suva, has been sponsored by Bluegas in his preparation for next January’s fight against Junior Farzan Ali in the promoter Freddy Chand’s South Pacific Boxing Promotion program in Nadi.
“It is an exclusive sponsorship and I thank Bluegas and its director Ajai Punja for helping me in my dream to become a Fijian boxing champion,” Singh said.
“The sponsorship is head-to-toe where they helped me in everything including my gear in my preparation towards this program. Junior Farzan Ali is a respected boxer, but I believe he has made his name and is past his prime.
“I don’t think he still has the strength to last in the ring. I will knock him out in the first half of our bout.”
Punja said his company was proud to help a promising young Fijian boxer who had the potential to get a world ranking.
“He has come up the ranks and has had a rewarding journey. Bluegas is proud to back an upcoming, talented and world ranked star,” Punja said.
“He has the potential to be a world titleholder in his weight category.”
Singh is trained by his father, Gyan, a renowned Fijian boxing trainer who had groomed past champions such as brothers Atama Raqili (late) and Jare Lalakai, former Fiji heavyweight champion Frank Atu, Nat Ledua, Poasa Tamaidilewa, Laveti Mafi, Kid Drugu, South Pacific Games gold medallist Osea Nakanacagi and many others.
