ONE of the world’s most popular beers was launched over the weekend at one of Fiji’s most favourite holiday destinations — Castaway Island Resort.

Singha Beer — brewed and bottled in Thailand by Boon Rawd Brewery — is now available in Fiji thanks to the marketing efforts of local distributor, Victoria Wines.

Director, Kate Vusoniwailala said her company was proud to be the distributor of Singha Beer because of the high quality of the brew.

“We were given the opportunity because Singha Estates that actually owns the beer company was looking for a distributor in Fiji,” she said

“Victoria Wines is renowned for distributing a wide selection of premium wines and we are very committed to providing a quality and diversity experience for the public and to all our customers in the tourism sector.

“So we were really thrilled to have the opportunity to distribute a beer of the quality of Singha Beer.

“It’s a real premium beer in every sense of the word — from the water source right through to the way the beer is brewed and bottled.

“And Singha Beer is also an excellent beer in terms for our Asian-fusion cuisine.”

Mrs Vusoniwailala said that bringing the beer to Fiji also added variety and value to the tourism industry.

“We like the idea that visitors to our country can have a wide range of quality choices in the beverage sector and obviously for our community as well that we have that choice available to us too.”

Castaway Island Resort general manager Steven Andrews said launching the beer at the iconic Mamanuca Group getaway was a proud moment for the property.

“To be given the opportunity to launch Singha Beer here is very special given that we — Castaway Island Resort and Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort — are proudly owned by Singha Estates the property arm under Boon Rawd Brewery — the owners and makers of Singha Beer,” he said.

“We are very grateful to Singha Beer for bringing their product to Fiji and to Victoria Wines for coming on board as the distributors of Singha beer.”

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort acting general manager Russell Blaik said adding Singha Beer to its range of offerings at the popular Korotogo property would offer more choices to its guests. Boon Rawd Brewery was established in Thailand in 1933.

The company produces bottled water and soft drinks, however, it is renowned for producing Singha Beer.

The Singha is an Asian lion, which in both Hindu and Thai tradition, is a powerful mythological creature.

It was chosen because it is an easily recognizable symbol in Southeast Asia.

The Garuda on the Singha Beer bottle neck shows Boon Rawd Brewery’s royal approval, which is granted exclusively to companies with a long-standing favorable reputation.

Singha Beer received this on October 25, 1939, by a royal warrant signed by King Rama VII’s Regent. Boon Rawd is the only brewery in Thailand to receive such a right.

Boon Rawd has 3500 employees in nine factories in seven Thai cities — Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Singburi, Khon Kaen, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, and Surat Thani.

Boon Rawd Brewery also produces other world-renowned beers including Leo, U, Snow and Asahi.
