THE Fijian Government has welcomed experts from Singapore to transform Fiji’s urban centres into a more modern, efficient, inclusive and attractive population hub.

While opening the Master Planning Workshop at the Suva City Council Chambers today, Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar said it was vital to invest in such plans because Fiji’s population was increasing.

“The master plan will provide a road map for all future development decisions to guide and coordinate the various government agencies in carrying out development works,” Mrs Kumar said.

“The Strategic Spatial Master Plan will determine the location, size, and boundary of the urbanised area for Viti Levu by examining the major transport connectivity within the mainland and to the surrounding outer islands.”

Mrs Kumar also urged attendees to participate and contribute to the plan because it could be addressed and strategised.
