THE Kaiviti Silktails are aiming to qualify for the elimination stage of the Ron Massey Cup (RMC) this year. The Silktails finished sixth in the RMC last year just missing out on the semi-fi nals.

Silktails head coach Wes Naiqama said they needed to build on from last year. Naiqama said their focus was on picking a team that was going to be competitive in this year’s RMC.

“I thought we were really unlucky not to make the finals last year,” he said.

“It was sort of like that in the last round game we just needed to win by one point.

“But we have kept a pretty large group from last year who are continuing into the second year which is good.

“There is still a long way to go and we have a trial game and we are focusing on getting through that.”

The Silktails will play Penrith Brothers in the opening round at the Parker St Reserve, New South Wales, Australia on March 19. Naiqama said they wanted to have a strong start to the season.

“We have eight games in Fiji and eight games in Australia,” he said.

“There will be six games at Churchill Park and two have to be shifted to Prince Charles Park in Nadi because it clashes with the Fijian Drua’s Super Rugby Pacific competition matches.”
