Fijians must shun the forces of evil through spiritual cleansing, said Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua while speaking at the Nanuku-Wailevu Gangmma Temple, in Rakiraki on Saturday night.

“I understand the events here this week is in line with the annual ongoing fire walking pooja throughout Fiji for our Hindu community which is to pay respect to the supreme power known as Adi Shakti for its abundance of blessings for our life and success,” he said.

“I must assure you the continued freedom, respect, and support of our government towards faith-based activities to curb and control moral decay.

“I am hopeful the spiritual cleansing exercise over here and around Fiji will inspire our people to shun the forces of evil and embrace the warmth of righteousness.

“This is very important in seeking national unity and grooming productive citizenship.

“At the heart of this quest remains mustering the art to grapple with the challenges that linger at us – particularly social problems and the sufferings of the less fortunate. They need our attention in a resolute manner.”

Mr Tikoduadua said communities in Fiji must ensure that people are safe, have access to basic services and equal opportunity and justice.

“I am looking forward to your continued and meaningful intervention in your own right to lead the people of this community.”
