Shredded ballot papers discarded by FEO

THE Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has discarded 19 and half mail bags of shredded material after the conclusion of the production of ballot papers on October 26, 2018.
This was confirmed by the Deputy Supervisor of Elections Karyl Winter at Star Printery in Vatuwaqa in the last hour.
Ms Winter said these are off-cuts and shredded ballot papers that were not meeting the standards that they had set for ballot papers.
She said initially the Fijian Elections Office had planned to discard the off-cuts and shredded materials at a recycling plant in Suva however it has come to their attention that the management of this particular recycling facility is politically affiliated and that one of its affiliates are contesting the general election under a political party.
Ms Winter said therefore FEO advises that all the political parties come and inspect all the mail bags between 2pm and 4pm at Star Printery after which the mail bags will be placed inside a shipping container.
She said the shipping container will be locked and sealed in front of all those who are present and it will be store at the FEO warehouse until the conclusion of the elections.
