Former hotel waitress Amrita Nand enjoys being an entrepreneur and her own boss.

The 35-year-old was working with the food and beverage department at the Capricorn International Hotel in Nadi.

She was also an employee of New World and Maxval-U supermarkets before starting her own pot plant business in 2016.

Ms Nand normally sold her products online. However, this all changed when she was able to secure a shop last year at the FNPF Plaza in Suva.

The mother-of-two operates from her shop six days a week. She also sells during the Suva Roc Market on Gladstone Rd on a monthly basis.

“I have been participating at the Roc Market since 2018, and it’s a good market,” she said.

“The Roc Market has been improving every year there has been no complaint so far.”

Apart from her pot plant business, Ms Nand also makes and sells crochets for baby milk bottles, tissue box and cup holders.

“The name of my shop is called Amrita’s Creation.

“I’m working full time so I’m doing my artwork plus my flowers.

“I sell my pot plants at the Roc Market with the same prices I offer at my shop

“Sometimes, people would just look and not buy the flowers, but that does not discourage myself from selling.”

Ms Nand would normally earn $400 to $450 from selling pot plants at the Roc Market.

“The pot plants I normally grow them by myself and I have a nursery at my Kinoya Home. “I would be at the FNPF plaza for six days, so if customers want pot plants, they would always come to the shop to purchase them.

“The prices are $5, $10 and $15 and it depends on the sizes as well.”

Ms Nand said she preferred selling at the Roc Market because of the variety of customers at the one-day event.

“With the Roc Market different people come and not like the other market.

“So it’s good for people to come and sell their products because it happens only once in a month.

“For a stall its $80 and for the Roc Market although the stall fees is high, we can sell more items at the Roc Market.

“If I sell products at FNPF for one week, at the Roc Market I can sell it for one day.”
