YEAR 13 student Amit Sharma said he wanted to represent the country in athletics and bring glory to the nation .
The best male athlete of Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial School during the school inter-house, is a specialist long distance runner competing in the 1500m and 3000m events.
The school’s inter-house competition concluded at the school’s grounds on Friday.
“I am the defending champion in the senior grade for the 3000m event and I am looking forward to a good outing again this year,” he said.
The Saweni, Lautoka native is an avid football player having represented the school at the annual secondary schools championships.
“I play as a midfielder for the school’s team also,” the 18-year-old, who claimed a bronze medal in the 3000m event in a time of 9:56:87 minutes said.
The Red house member dreams of becoming an auditor after he finishes secondary school this year.
The Lautoka-based school’s medal won at last year’s Coca-Cola Games was won by him.
“I train twice a day in preparation for the zone meet and I know it will be a challenge but I believe in myself,” he added.
Amit has been winning the 3000m event at the Lautoka/ Yasawa zone for the past three years.
Tavua College’s wonder boy Yeshnil Karan is the defending champion of the senior boys 3000m event at the Coca-Cola Games.
