A NEW look Fiji Airways Farmers Carnival was launched on Saturday night at carnival ground, Lautoka.
While addressing Sugar City residents, organising committee president Vyas Deo Sharma promised a more transparent and robust festival that would assist the people it was established for — the farmers of the Western Division and their families.
Events co-ordinator, Lorima Voravora said the people of Lautoka could look forward to an exciting week of cultural performances and witness the 10 contestants vying for the Fiji Airways Farmers Carnival crown going through their paces.
“We want to broaden our focus to all farmers — from sugar cane to dalo to vegetables and livestock,” he said.
“We are also introducing new amusement rides, games and food — this is a new-look and revamped carnival and we urge people to come out and enjoy it.”
Tonight will be Farmers Night and the entertainment group Koroipita Tiare will be performing multicultural and Bollywood dances.
The 10 pageant contestants will be introduced after a private judging event at the Lautoka City Council chambers.
