The University of Fiji’s acting vice-chancellor Prof Shaista Shameem says she welcomes the Government’s desire to rectify inconsistencies in the composition of the Board of Legal Education.

Ms Shameem was responding to the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s statement that the Legal Practitioners Act would be amended to include other law schools in Fiji apart from USP on the board.

“It had seemed strange to us too, that even after 10 years of the existence of the University of Fiji Law School, now the JDP School of Law, we were not represented on the Board of Legal Education which approves new programs and amendments to law programs as well as other matters regarding legal education in Fiji,” Prof Shameem said.
