Politics should involve people who have a vision, are compassionate, and truly care for the people of Fiji regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion or political beliefs.

This, according to Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) provisional candidate Dildar Shah.

He said politics was not a dirty game that involved thugs and corrupted people.

“Fiji has a lot of scope for politicians wishing to unite all Fijians and I hope to be one those politicians,” he said.

After having an illustrious career in the civil services, Mr Shah said he hoped to improve the living standards of the people of Fiji.

Prior to his retirement he spent most of his career in the public service.

He joined the Public Service Commission in 1977 and served as the senior training officer, principal training officer and subsequently director of training overseeing public service training throughout Fiji.

He also served in various ministries and was a member of several boards and committees with the highlight of his career being when he was selected as secretary to the Vatukoula Commission of Inquiry by the president of Fiji.

“I have served in a lot of boards and committees in the country. So I have reasonable understanding of how government works. The Labasa native said he had also been an avid community worker and has assisted many individuals in and around his community.

“In 1991, I founded the Vanua Levu scholarship foundation along with few other individuals. We managed to put 14 children through university.

“After that I spoke to the government about it and that led to the establishment of the Multi-Ethnic Affairs scholarship.”

He said agriculture was an area he hoped to focus on.

“I am a farmer, my father was a farmer and I have visited many farming communities and the standard of living among farmers is declining. And particularly I find that Mr Gavoka is a very compassionate, kind and benevolent leader. He is very courageous in making decisions which will be for the betterment of the country.

“He is always looking at the interest of all the people of Fiji; I think Fiji will go to great heights under a SODELPA government with the leadership of Mr Gavoka.”

Mr Shah said his wealth of experience in government and his passion for improving the lives of every Fijian was a reason Fijians should vote for him in the 2022 polls.
