THE Labasa Town Council has issued a notice of “Intimation of the existence of Nuisance”, to a supermarket after reports of sewage overflow.

The notice gave the supermarket 12 hours to fix the problem and also ordered its restaurant and bakery be temporarily closed until the issue was rectified.

Yesterday, police intervened after the owner of the building lodged a complaint.

A team of officers visited the supermarket to inspect the overflow.

The building owner said he had been communicating with the supermarket management for over a month because this problem had been in existence for more than six months.

“The tenant has been occupying my building for more than two years and it’s sad that they can’t fix this problem which is a health risk,” Bashir Khan said.

“The water overflow issues have affected neighbouring properties and they need to attend to this quickly.

The footpath used by public is also affected as water settles on the surface. This is a huge risk and people can slip.”

Mr Khan said last week he hired some men to clean the area. Management of the supermarket said they could not comment on the issue. |
